This article shows how you can download any Contractbook draft or template as a Word (.docx) file. This is useful if you need to share a contract with someone who insists on negotiating in Word format instead of Contractbook.
Note: When you download a contract as a Word file, any Contractbook-native components such as parties, signees, data fields, or conditional text will be converted to static text. Re-importing the file will not restore these elements.
Download a draft as a Word file (.docx)

Go to the Contracts page and open any draft

In the top-right action bar, click the three-dot menu

Select Download as Word (.docx)
The file will download to your computer as a standard Word document that you can open and edit outside of Contractbook.
Note: Downloading a contract as Word file (.docx) is only possible in draft mode. Once a contract is pending or signed, you can only download it as a PDF.
Download a template as a Word file (.docx)

Go to the Templates page and open any template

In the top-right action bar, click the three-dot menu

Select Download as Word (.docx)
The exported template can now be shared with external stakeholders who prefer working in Word.
Things to keep in mind

Attachments are not included in the export

Rich components like data fields or conditional logic are flattened into plain text

The exported Word file is static and not connected to your Contractbook workflow
This feature gives you flexibility when a counterparty insists on using Word, but for full functionality and collaboration, we recommend keeping your contracts inside Contractbook whenever possible.
