Can I use data fields in formulas?

I try to link data fields to a formula but get an error message - why?

If you create a formula based on variable data for your documents, you must connect the specific final calculation format to other formula fields. You are not allowed to connect data fields directly to formula fields.

This means that you need to replace the data fields in the body of the document with other formula fields, leaving their value empty:

The "Value or Formula" section in your formula fields can be left empty, enabling you to add information varying from contract to contract.

We suggest adding the input formula fields with empty values and using those linked to formula fields containing the calculations you want to establish, as shown in the video above.

How can I use spreadsheet-style of formulas?

You can perform various calculations in your input data (from data or metadata fields) by using the "math formula" transform type in the "transform data" automation action.

By building an automated calculation process, you can avoid any manual input and configuration in the future.
